Dutta has successfully proved India is capable of making war epics as well as Hollywood. This four-hour film is about the Kargil conflict of 1999 when about 500 Indian soldiers were killed. Ajay, Saif, Abhishek and Manoj outshine the others. O. P. Dutta's dialogues and Bhiku Verma's action with Karim Khatri's cinematography have lent a rare punch to the film. The film is the compilation of various deeds of bravery by the Indian Jawans on the high peaks when they were taken by surprise by men of the Pakistan Army. It tells the tale of real life heroes like Major Rajesh Singh Adhikari, Major Deepak Rampal, Capt Anuj Nayyar, Lt Balwan Singh, Rifleman Sanjay Kumar, Lt Col Y.K. Joshi, Lt Vijayant Thapar, Major Padmapani Achayra, Lt Manoj Kumar Pandey, Grenadier Yogendra Singh Yadav, Col. Y. K. Joe and Capt. Vikram Batra who fought bravely for their country.
2. MUNNABHAI MBBS:

In this confident debut as director, film editor Hirani has managed excellent cameos from his main cast including Sanjay and his father Sunil. Munnabhai along with friend Circuit and his gang make a living by settling financial disputes through using his clout as a small-time don. But his parents who think he is a doctor running a charity hospital come from the village to meet him and he is exposed, thanks to Dr Asthana who had wanted his daughter Suman to marry Munnabhai. Munna now decides he must become a doctor. He not only wins over everyone with love and care with his magical hug but also manages to cure some patients, thus winning the love and admiration of both Dr Asthana and Suman.

Well-scripted and ably acted, the film has clear influence of Karan. Naina lives in Manhattan with younger brother and step-sister Gia, and bickering mother Jennifer and a grandmother. She is a serious girl who carries with her a no-nonsense attitude, but her only joy in life is her rich Gujarati friend Rohit. The charming Aman Mathur comes to live in the neighbourhood and begins to change their lives. Initially Naina tries to resist him but ultimately takes a liking to him and even Rohit relies on Aman for guidance. One day their world is thrown apart when Naina and Rohit discover that Aman suffers an incurable disease. What follows is a saga of heart-rending emotions.

Begun by Anant Balani, the film was directed by Sudhir when Anant suddenly died. Kareena manages to show she possesses talent though she cannot shake off the look of being a high class girl. Aman Kapoor is an investment banker who meets Chameli one night when taking refuge from a downpour at Flora Fountain in Mumbai when his car breaks down. He is nostalgic as he had lost his wife and unborn child on one such stormy night. Chameli tries to lure Aman in various ways, but fails. However, this helps him discover the other side of this girl and he helps her when her tormenters come after her and even influences the cops in trying to save her.

Helped by the Tax Free tag, the most notable thing about this film is that Amitabh is still capable of delivering the goods despite some mistakes like the recent 'Boom'. Hema proves that she is still capable of excellent acting. The ageing Raj and Pooja Malhotra decide to spend time with their four sons after Raj retires. But the sons decide that while their mother would live with the eldest son and his wife, the father would be put up for six months with the second son. As the two start leading separate lives with their sons, they find that the sons look at their parents as 'interference'. On the suggestion of Hemantbhai in whose café Raj spends his time, Raj starts putting his thoughts to paper. Though their foster son Alok and his wife Arpita want them to live with them, they decide to live alone. When Raj receives an advance cheque of Rs One million for the book 'Baghbaan' which is now published and has even been a Booker prize winner, he decides it is now time to teach his children what true love means.
