Double whammy for Hrithik in one day

By Viral Bhayani, IANS

For Hrithik Roshan it is certainly the season of awards because now he has bagged two of them on the same day!

He was this year's big winner at the Screen Awards, winning the golden statuette as Best Actor for his brilliant performance in "Koi Mil Gaya".

The film in fact bagged a total of five awards, including the Best Film and Best Director for Rakesh Roshan.

There was a tough fight between Preity Zinta and Urmila Matondkar, two powerhouse performers, for the Best Actress award. Finally it was the spine chilling horror flick "Bhoot" that fetched Urmila the honour.

Rajesh Khanna was honoured for lifetime achievements. He received the award from his "Aap Ki Kasam" co-star Mumtaz.

Amitabh Bachchan and Hema Malini were presented with the Star Jodi No 1 award for "Baghbaan". Saif Ali Khan and Juhi Chawla won for their supporting acts in "Kal Ho Naa Ho" and "3 Deewarein" respectively.

On the same day and same time, however, another low profile cinema award ceremony was held in this city.

Organised by the Lions Club of Mumbai, the event saw almost 19 different popular film awards being presented at the tightly packed Bhaidas Hall of Mumbai.

Hrithik again won Best Actor for "Koi Mil Gaya".

The other award winners included Karan Johar ("Kal Ho Naa Ho") - Best Feature Film, Rakesh Roshan ("Koi Mil Gaya") - Best Director, and Preity Zinta ("Koi Mil Gaya") - Best Actress.

Not all stars came for this low profile event but then it was attended by Satish Kaushik, Niki Aneja, Udit Narayan, Arshad Warsi and Irfan Khan.

Also, an award was presented to Rajkumar Hirani ("Munnabhai MBBS") with an interesting title - Best Kid Director!

So then, the film awards season is here once again!

Coming up are the Zee Cine Awards, Bollywood Awards of North America, IIFA and finally the Filmfare Awards. And then, of course, there will be the most prestigious National Awards.

Screen has been in the show business for over 50 years and initiated the film awards in 1994. The media was not invited to cover the event, but it seemed to be well attended.
