New film has a beggar as hero
Debutant director Kumar Dave's film "Prarambh - The Beginning" is about a beggar who rediscovers himself.
The film, starring Vijay Raaz, Gauri Karnik and theatre actor Sanjay Gandhi, revolves around the life of a beggar, Bholu (played by Raaz), who does not know what to do in life.
Then, he meets Chamki (Karnik), and his life acquires new meaning and direction.
"I was inspired by a short story written by Jayanti Dalal," Dave told IANS at a promotion event of the film in the capital. Dave has earlier worked with filmmaker Ashutosh Gowarikar in "Pehla Nasha", "Baazi" and "Lagaan".
Though the film does not have a star cast, Dave said he was satisfied with his casting because all the actors fit their role very well.
"The film delves into the very limited life of a beggar and how after meeting Chamki he aspires to be better and wants acceptance in society," said Raaz, whose earlier credits include "Monsoon Wedding", "Bhopal Express" and "Raghu Romeo".
"Prarambh - The Beginning" is Gauri Karnik's second release after "Sur". "I play a strong-willed, fearless woman who motivates Bholu," said Karnik. "It was a challenge playing the role."
