Karan Johar to host celebrity talk show on Star

Filmmaker Karan Johar of "Kal Ho Na Ho" fame has been roped in by Rupert Mordoch-owned satellite TV channel Star World to host a celebrity talk show.
If all goes as planned, "Koffee With Karan" will be on air by October and will be the second celebrity talk show hosted by a Bollywood personality on the channel.
The other one is the immensely successful "Rendezvous" hosted by Simi Garewal.
"We wanted Karan Johar to do something with us. Media coordinator Sunil Doshi suggested a meeting. While chatting on various possibilities, Karan mooted the idea for 'Koffee With Karan' and that was it!" said Samir Nair, Star's chief operations officer.
Nair said: "It'll be on Star World because Karan is more comfortable with English. Karan wanted to do a talk show that deviates from the way talk shows are generally done.
"He will have two star guests instead of the usual practice of having just one. The guests won't necessarily be related to each other. Karan's show will be more casual, cooler and hipper.
"Karan will be more conversational. He loves to talk, and is a great talker and instead of, 'Tell me what you did last week?' it would be, 'Why did you do what you did last week?'"
The channel will reportedly spend a fortune on producing the talk show.
Nair, who has great hopes from the show, said: "I've great faith in the show. It would be a signature show for Star World. It will be a new way of looking at celebrities.
"We'll also play these episodes in the US and Britain, thereby allowing a new yuppie generation of non-resident Indians, who look on Karan as an icon, to connect with Bollywood.
"We're quite excited about it. We'll be applying the talk-show principle of playing seasons. We're looking at 26 episodes of 'Koffee With Karan,' then a break and then another 26."
"We'll make sure that our shooting doesn't clash with his film when he goes on floors," Nair noted.
