"The Hope", the Kashmir-inspired debut film of Indian director Kamal Nathani, has been chosen for the competitive section at a German film festival.

"The Hope" competes for the Bernhard Wicki Award 2004 at the ongoing 15th Internationales Filmfest Emden that concludes June 9.

True to the title, the film is a sensitive portrayal of war and peace. Inspired by terrorism that has ravaged the Kashmir valley for more than a decade, the film deals with the humane side of army officials and hardcore terrorists.

"The innovative subject, hard-hitting narrative moved me," says Dheeraj Kumar of Creative Eye who is promoting it worldwide, including the Indian release.

According to Nathani, who has just returned from Germany, the film has created a great deal of anticipation in the European market.

The film stars Rajat Bedi, Gayatri, Mukesh Tiwari, Zakir Hussain, Raaj Hussein, Nishigandha Wad, Amar Talwar and Manish Wadhwa.

The film's music is by the young and talented 19-year-old Sneha Khanwalkar, dialogues by Nikhil Vasudev, lyrics by Shahil Sultanpuri and Shahid Hamdani, cinematography by Arvind K. and Lokesh Bhalla, action by Johny Master, art by Ashok Samanya, editing by Arun Shekhar and background score by Tutun and Sneha Khanwalkar.

Based on Kashmir, the film has been shot in Manali.
