Akshay Kumar meets idol Jackie Chan
By Subhash K. Jha, IANS
Akshay Kumar, a self-acknowledged Jackie Chan fan, finally got to meet his idol last week.
In Vancouver to shoot for Suniel Darshan's "Mere Jeevan Saathi", Akshay excitedly recounted his meeting with the "Shanghai Noon" star.
"I met him on Saturday in Hong Kong in his office. He wanted to meet someone from Bollywood and, to my delight, he chose me. He knew about me and my work. We basically exchanged views on stunts in movies and on acting. We exchanged notes on how he felt while executing action scenes.
"We discovered we had a lot in common. He enjoys doing comedy and so do I. He then showed me the trailer of his new film and told me how excited he was about 'Police Story Part 3'."
Uncannily, Akshay has two cop films "Police Force" and "Aan: Men At Work" lined up for release in the next two weeks.
Akshay laughed: "Yeah, we're both involved with cop movies. And he's also doing a series on martial arts on the National Geographic channel just like me. Jackie had seen some of my films before the meeting. My entire bio-data was sent to him. It was an honour to be invited by an actor who I've admired for so long. I must say the meeting went very well."
About the release of two cop films in two weeks Akshay said: "I can't blame anyone. Feroz Nadiadwala had decided to release 'Aan' on June 4 from long before. The "Police Force" producer Kulbhushan Gupta has faced a lot of financial problems. Though I'm in the police force in both films and I don't wear a khaki uniform in either, I play very different cops in 'Police Force' and 'Aan'."
As for the long delayed Sridevi-Akshay starrer "Meri Biwi Ka Jawab Nahin", which is also on the verge of release, Akshay said he has changed his mind about taking legal action.
"Why give it undue publicity? If a producer insists on releasing an incomplete film, the best way to deal with the situation is to let it come and go quietly just like Shah Rukh and Raveena did when their shelved film ("Lamhe Judaai Ke") was released recently."
