Prakash Jha plans to start new party
Undeterred by his defeat in the parliamentary poll, filmmaker Prakash Jha is going ahead with plans to float a new regional party to take on Bihar's ruling Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) in the upcoming assembly elections.
Jha, who contested as an independent from the Bettiah Lok Sabha seat, was defeated in the repoll Wednesday. It was Jha who had demanded the repoll but the final results in his maiden electoral battle placed him fifth with only 25,000 votes.
But in a never say die spirit, Jha said: "I am not a person to leave politics because my mission is different."
He said he would not only contest the upcoming assembly elections due early next year but also start a new regional party to field other candidates.
The maker of films like "GangaaJal" and "Mrityudand" is in constant touch with various like-minded parties to garner support.
He said he has received tremendous response from activists and other people.
"I have been earning enough money to survive by making films and there is a small name for me in Bollywood," said the man from Bihar.
"But someone has to stand up to fight against the evils of society. So I have taken the initiative to enter the electoral fray in a big way in Bihar during the assembly elections," Jha said.
Though he praised RJD chief Lalu Prasad, who is also union Railways minister, for positive social changes in Bihar, Jha blamed him for the backwardness in the state.
