By Manisha Deshpande
Actress Amrita Singh is set to make a major television debut with Balaji Telefilms' forthcoming serial, KUL. The serial is scheduled to begin on Star Plus in January and will be formally announced soon. Singh, is said to have been signed at an unheard of price for the serial, which has been mounted on a lavish scale. "I cannot talk about the finances but it is true that Amrita Singh's television debut will be something to talk about. We are ensuring that the soap will be the talk of the town when it goes on air in January," Shobha Kapoor, director of Balaji TeleFilms confirmed the news.
It may be recalled that earlier Amrita Singh was offered an exceptional price by Sony Entertainment Television for a stand-up comedy, MAUSI KA AANGAN, being directed by Anand Mahendroo. The pilot of the show was shot with Kiron Kher, but Sony was said to be keen on having Amrita Singh to enact the role of 'Mausi'. But it was Star Plus, which took the initiative at the behest of Ektaa Kapoor and managed to sign an exclusive contract with Amrita Singh. According to Shobha Kapoor, Singh will be working for Star Plus exclusively for the next one year. "We will shortly have a major promotional campaign for the soap," Kapoor revealed.
