Has Miramax acquired the rights of 'Bhagmati…'?
By Manisha Deshpande
The concept of having a star voice to dub for a character in animation film, which is fast becoming a trend mark with most animation films, was initiated with BHAGMATI-THE QUEEN OF FORTUNES, according to its director Ashok Kaul. "We were the earliest to take the initiative when we signed Mahima Chaudhary to dub for Bhagmati's character in the film. The others only followed later," Kaul recently, revealed.
It may be recalled that Shah Rukh Khan recently agreed to lend his voice for the leading character in the Indian version of Walt Disney Pictures' THE INCREDIBLES. In addition, Percept is planning to have Salman Khan to dub for the animated version of its mammoth project, HANUMAN.
E-City is now said to be holding talks with Miramax and Columbia Tristar for a grand international release of BHAGMATI… "The film has been generating a good deal of curiosity among international buyers ever since it was shown at the Cannes festival. Considering that it is the first animation cum live film made in 7.5 lakh hand-drawn frames, there is a lot of value attached to it. Talks are on with 2-3 international distributors after which the release date of the film will be confirmed," says Kaul.
Kaul has now started work on his next film, which he describes as one on human relationships. The film will not be produced by Zee this time. He is planning to produce and direct it himself.
