Why was Akshay Kumar walking on the ledge of a 24-storey building?

No, this was not a dangerous stunt for an upcoming film. It was his way of showing by his own example how dangerous is the situation facing young people in India today.

Today, around 6 crore people are infected with heart disorders in India alone. And according to the World Health Organisation, in just ten years from now, 60% of all heart patients worldwide will be from India. If today's youth don't take care, they are going to be the most affected."

As the ambassador for the Good Heart Foundation, Akshay Kumar has tied up with STAR TV to promote awareness about prevention of heart attacks. A thrilling commercial to promote the same was shot on the terrace of the Oberoi Sky Towers in Mumbai, the tallest building in Lokhandwala Complex. Bollywood's biggest stunt director, Allan Amin, contributed his services free to the campaign as he directed Akshay in this daredevil feat.

Akshay says, "I know that we are too busy in our day to day lives to go someplace and give a donation or even to write a cheque. So we have made it very simple. All you have to do is to SMS the word "heart" to 7827. Out of every one rupee, STAR will donate 25 paise to this cause. Also, every time you send an SMS, an automatic reply message will give you one tip to take care of your heart. Today it will cost you only a rupee… someday it could cost you your life. So I hope everyone sends as many SMSs and gets as many tips as possible - it's for their own good health!"

Throughout his career, actor Akshay Kumar has not just advocated health and fitness for others, but has also followed a healthy lifestyle for himself. "Health is not just about pumping iron," he says, "it is about taking walks, eating meals on time and avoiding stress. These are the things that your heart likes - the best ways to prevent a heart attack."

This cause is also special for him. As Akshay says, 'I took this up as a cause because I believe that we can do something to change the situation. Ten years ago, Japan was in the same situation as we are today. But they undertook a nationwide campaign and today the percentage of people suffering in Japan has almost halved. I believe that India can also do it.'

Although Akshay may talk about not having stress, but walking on the ledge of one of the tallest buildings in Mumbai takes not just guts, but also a very big heart.
