The changing preference of Indian audiences
By Priyanka Khanna, IANS
The changing preference of Indian audiences, who are becoming more discerning and asking for more than just good-looking stars, is playing a big role in the glamourisation of character roles.
Stars are now trying to make their mark as character actors by making a big show of shaving their moustaches, growing their hair, or gaining or losing weight for a role.
Roles traditionally conceived for character actors are finding takers in non-actors but crowd pullers.
And after several films and spending years in the industry, actors like Abhishek Bachchan, Karisma Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor, Shilpa Shetty and Raveena Tandon have honed their acting skills and are snaring roles in small-budget meaningful films from the likes of Nandita Das and Tabu.
