Is Akshay Kumar playing a spoof on Himesh Reshammiya?
One close look at the ongoing promos of 'Mast Kalandar', a song featuring Shahrukh Khan, Akshay Kumar, Ritiesh Deshmukh and Vidya Balan, and you would know what we mean. A fun rhythmic track, 'Mast Kalandar' from the film HEYY BABYY is as rhythmic as it gets with bright colors gracing each and every single frame of the song. The song is rendered by Salim Shehzada, Rehan Khan, Shankar Mahadevan and Sajid Khan.
What catches one's eye though are the shots that feature Akshay Kumar holding a mike.
Call it intentional or unintentional, but the way Akshay holds the cordless mike close to his mouth is akin to the style that has made Himesh Reshammiya famous in last couple of years. With eyes close, neck rising upwards to the sky and mike kept at a 90 degrees angle to the mouth, the sight is unmistakable as Akshay's pose bears a close resemblance to that of Reshammiya.
As one gets more suspicious about the placement and setting of the song, one realizes that the nasal twang is pretty prevalent in the way 'Mast Kalandar' has been sung, something which Himesh specializes in and has also publicly acknowledged over the last few weeks.
Does this mean that 'Mast Kalandar' has been deliberately designed as a Himesh Reshammiya spoof? Even if that's the case, it is a light hearted friendly spoof, one must say. Guess what Himesh has to say on this!
