Release of WELCOME would have certain made Anees Bazmee, the film's director, nostalgic about NO ENTRY.
Why? Because a little over 2 years back when the Anil Kapoor-Salman Khan-Fardeen Khan film had hit the screens, even it had gone through its share of uncertainties around reaching cinemas on time. At that time, the problem was at producer Boney Kapoor's end as there were certain financial issues involved amongst different parties. No one was sure, whether they were distributors, exhibitors or the cine goers, around the film's release on the declared Friday.
Eventually, the prints of NO ENTRY had started arriving but all cinemas had started screening the film only on Saturday. As a result Friday painted a scary picture with sub-par collections at number of centers due to uncertainty involved.
Thankfully in case of WELCOME, collections haven't been impacted though audience has been left asking for more as the film hasn't arrived at all multiplexes. This time the issue lies between the distributors and the multiplex owners due to sharing of revenue which had resulted in a deadlock around the eventual screening of the film. Due to this, though the film was shown on PVR, it was not the same situation across other multiplex chains.
As this piece is being written, resolution seems to be in sight with majority of multiplexes deciding to screen the film at 8/10/12 shows a day. Yes, the first day's collections have been impacted since most of the moolah has come from the single screens but as days progress (it's a 5 day long weekend), compensation for the lost revenue is definitely on its way.
