Abhay & Minissha in sync with each other
By Swati R Chaudhary, Bollywood Trade News Network
Her minuscule role in CORPORATE and the subsequent debacle of ANTHONY KAUN HAI and ROCKY- The Rebel hasn’t dampened the spirits of Minissha Lamba. The lady has her hopes pinned on HONEYMOON TRAVELS PVT LTD that releases on 23rd February 2007.
“I believe in putting my best foot forward and leave the rest to god. As actors we put in tremendous hard work and give our everything but ultimately the film’s fate is not in our control,” she says adding, “I personally feel I’ve evolved as an actor. If I were the same (in YAHAAN and HONEYMOON…) why would someone want to watch me!”
HONEYMOON…directed by Reema Kagti and produced under the banner of Excel Entertainment is about 6 couples on a package honeymoon tour to Goa. A romantic comedy, the film is a fun light hearted take on relationships interwoven with 6 couples from diverse backgrounds. “Abhay (Deol) and I play a modern day Parsi couple. Every character has a social background (referring to the other 5 couples) but it’s not meant to reinforce any cultural stereotypes. It only adds to the charm and quirkiness of that particular character and makes them lovable,” gushes Minissha emphasizing that there won’t be any caricatures of Parsis.
“Abhay and I look like the perfect couple passionately in love with each other. We are one couple perfectly in sync with each other in the film. They are so perfect that’s it’s scary, to the point that their clothes and hairstyles are coordinated. There’s a twist in here and you need to watch the film to discover it!” she adds.
Talking about her onscreen chemistry with Abhay Deol she reminisces, “I went to the Excel office to meet Reema. I met Abhay and we hit it off in 5 minutes. We got along like a house on fire. Even Reema was astonished and after the screen test she inquired if we knew each other. It really looked like we knew each other for years.”
She is effusive in her praise for her costar. “Abhay is proactive. He sort off infuses life into the script. If something is given to him, he’ll find ways to do it better. He’ll try to figure out what more can be done. Besides when we were shooting for the Latin American dance ‘tango’ he was so protective. He was very considerate and caring. He ensured that I was in one piece and he didn’t hurt me or drop me while doing those stunts,” she laughs.
Minissha expected some difference of opinion on sets considering the film’s ensemble star cast. “It’s quite a task to deal with 6 different couples and moreover to be able to justice to each track. But Reema handled everything beautifully. I expected some friction but surprisingly things went off smoothly. All the characters have been very well etched out and Reema got the best out of us. After watching the film you won’t feel like any of the stories were incomplete coz the script is written in such a way that it’s conducive to a two hour film,” she signs off.
Oops! How can we forget to introduce the ‘Desert Queen’- one of the most important characters whose presence is integral to the script! Well the ‘Desert Queen’ is the striking honeymoon bus the couples hop on to! It was specially designed like a honeymooning bus with black polka dotted upholstery embellished with heart shaped fur around the lights.
