Aamir Khan & M N Kapasi Even after six years, the LAGAAN phenomenon refuses to die down. Last week, Aamir Khan and the motley members of the LAGAAN XI played a unique match at a Mall to celebrate the overwhelming success of the DVD. Over 2.5 lakh units of the DVDs and VCDs (LAGAAN and Chale Chalo combined) have been shipped out so far, making it the highest selling DVD in India. This has made it the highest selling DVD in terms of volume and value ahead of SHOLAY.

The DVD released by Excel Home Videos, couldn’t be launched earlier due to a clause in the contract with Sony. Aamir Khan Productions and Excel Home Videos have left no stone unturned to make this a huge success. Amidst great fanfare last month Aamir Khan launched the DVD accompanied by members from team LAGAAN including the Director Ashutosh Gowarikar, Actress Gracy Singh, Lyricist Javed Aktar and many of the cast members.

The release was touted as one of the biggest launch in Home Entertainment in India. LAGAAN entered the market with a record number of DVDs and VCDs, the total units being around 1,00,000 and 1,50,000 respectively.
