Adman (Lintas) turned director, R Balakrishnan, has ruled out the idea of postponing the release of his forthcoming film, CHEENI KAM in order to avert the clash with another Bachchan starrer, SHOOT OUT AT LOKHANDWALA. The two films are slated for release on May 25 but Balakrishnan does not see any cause for concern. "As far as I know, the other film has Mr. Bachchan in a guest appearance but irrespective of everything, my film has a distinct storyline and treatment. We have finalized the date and there is no question of postponing it now."

Balakrishnan or Balki as he is popularly known, has also ruled out any similarity of the film's story to the recently released Bachchan starrer, NISHABD, which also portrayed an older man-younger woman relationship. "First of all, I wouldn't define the story of CHEENI KAM as an older man-younger woman relationship. It is more like a Yash Chopra film replete with light, romantic moments. There's a superb chemistry between Amitabh Bachchan and Tabu, besides Paresh Rawal and Zora Sehgal there's a lot of light banter in the film with comedy being its main thrust. Frankly, there's no similarity whatsoever between NISHABD and CHEENI KAM. The two stories as diverse as chalk and cheese," Balakrishnan reveals.

Interestingly, Bachchan had not very long ago confessed in an interview that the idea of NISHABD was inspired when he causally told Ramu the story of an older man-younger woman relationship that he was planning with Balakrishnan. However Balakrishnan has a different take on that. "As far as I know, I wrote the script of CHEENI KAM with Amitabh Bachchan and Tabu in mind. I had conceptualized a few ad-campaigns for him, including the Dabur, Hajmola and Parker ads and when I first discussed the idea with him, he was thoroughly taken up with it. That's how it all started and the outcome will be there for everyone to see. I have no issues about NISHABD being inspired from my idea."

Meanwhile, Balki is waiting to show the film to Bachchan in the next few days. "He hasn't seen it yet. No doubt he has been busy with the recent wedding celebrations but he is a thorough professional to the core. He is ever excited about all his projects and I am eager to see his reaction," he says.
