So the Day of Judgment is here. All the write-ups, praises or criticism for OM SHANTI OM and SAAWARIYA, will be examined by the jury, which has reserved its judgment and will finally come out with its verdict, this Friday. Obviously, the jury consists of the millions of audiences who will pour into the theaters this weekend to watch the two 'Diwali' sparklers, Shah Rukh Khan's OM SHANTI OM and Sanjay Leela Bhansali's SAAWARIYA.

As per reputed trade magazines, the total number of prints and digital screens would be around 1500 for OM SHANTI OM whereas the number for SAAWARIYA would be around 950. Indications are that OM SHANTI OM is set for a bumper start while SAAWARIYA too will embark on a good start. Chances are that during the first weekend, both will create sweet sounds at the box-office and a clear picture, about which one will be the front runner, may emerge Monday onwards.

Moving on to the earlier releases, JAB WE MET suffered on account of the dull pre-'Diwali' phase, though given the starcast and the makers, the opening week collections are quite good. The film has faired best in Bombay, South and East Punjab. Checking out the numbers, the Shahid-Kareena starrer collected 2.56 crores from Bombay, 42.65 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 1.15 lakhs from Himmatnagar, 8.20 lakhs from Rajkot, 3.50 lakhs from Jamnagar, 2.75 lakhs (gross) from Bhavnagar, 1.50 lakhs from Solapur, 4.10 lakhs from Nasik, 1.55 crores from Delhi city, 28.30 lakhs from Gurgaon, 9 lakhs from Faridabad, 1.65 lakhs from Panipat, 22.20 lakhs from Noida, 4.50 lakhs from Kaushambi, 2.10 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 15.60 lakhs from Lucknow, 2.25 lakhs from Agra, 2.40 lakhs from Aligarh, 12.30 lakhs from Nagpur, 1.15 lakhs from Amravati, 1 lakh each from Raipur and Akola, 16.25 lakhs from Indore, 3.65 lakhs from Bhopal, 30 lakhs from Jaipur, 3 lakhs from Jodhpur, 4 lakhs (gross) from Ajmer, 1.25 lakhs from Bikaner, 1.20 lakhs from Guwahati, 33 lakhs from Calcutta, 29.50 lakhs from Hyderabad and 3.05 lakhs from Aurangabad. Coming to JAB WE MET's main opponent, Anurag Kashyap's NO SMOKING, the film had pathetic collections to show, specially in view of the cast and the makers. The numbers reveal the story. During the opening week, NO SMOKING collected 51 lakhs from Bombay, 6.20 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 17 lakhs from Delhi city, 2.40 lakhs from Gurgaon, 1.15 lakhs from Faridabad, 3.50 lakhs from Noida, 1.75 lakhs from Lucknow, 1.20 lakhs from Nagpur, 1.75 lakhs from Indore, 2.65 lakhs from Jaipur, 8.15 lakhs from Calcutta and 5.70 lakhs from Calcutta. In its opening week NO SMOKING netted around 2 crores. It is but obvious that it is a big flop. NO SMOKING is also a huge failure in the Overseas.

The two other films that released with JAB WE MET and NO SMOKING have fared worse. While MUMBAI SALSA could not make any of its distributors dance with joy, netting just around 50 lakhs, BAL GANESH appealed to neither the kids nor the adults with a poor 35 lakhs. Needless to add that both join NO SMOKING as trade disasters.
