Well, do not wrack that brain of yours, as its not OM SHANTI OM or WELCOME that we are talking about. The film in question is TINGYA, the directorial debut venture of Mangesh Halwade that beat both CHAK DE! INDIA and TAARE ZAMEEN PAR to win the Critics International FIPRRESCI award and also the best film award at the 10th MAMI Film Festival.
When asked about how he felt that his film had beaten both CHAK DE! and TZP to win the award, the very humble Halwade said that he felt good that TINGYA competed and won against films of such high caliber. He disclosed that Aamir Khan's TAARE ZAMEEN PAR is his personal favourite and CHAK DE! INDIA is a film that he has watched a number of times and enjoyed it immensely on each occasion.
Coming to TINGYA, the film made at a modest budget of 30 lakhs released last Friday in Bombay and was off to a good start at the ticket window.
It appears that all the awards at the film festivals have done the Marathi film a world of good and it is nice to see an off beat venture like TINGYA being appreciated by the paying audience too. And we are now looking forward to Mangesh Halwade's next, PACKAGE INDIA, the script of which is ready and the casting has just begun.
