The coming Friday will see multiple releases in the form of Deepak Shivdasani's MR. BLACK MR. WHITE, Anant Mahadevan's ANAMIKA and PRANALI - THE TRADITION, a film about the devdasi tradition. One feels that it will be the Sunil Shetty, Arshad Warsi and Sandhya Mridul starrer MR. BLACK MR. WHITE that is likely to fare best (comparatively) from the three scheduled releases.

Last week's major release, Yash Raj Films' Vijay Krishna Acharya directed multi-starrer, TASHAN, featuring Anil Kapoor, Akshay Kumar, Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor, proved to be an anti-climax, because a huge opening was on the cards. The lack of house-full initial for the 35-crore TASHAN and the less-than-ordinary reports have sent shock waves in the industry. The first day in Bombay saw a so-so opening while outside of Bombay the opening was fair at places and below the mark at others. TASHAN not opening at a lot of multiplexes (especially Bombay) due to Aditya Chopra's stubborn approach, will further tell on its business prospects. The film also had a weak start in the US grossing $301,226 but was comparatively better in the UK with a gross of $361,451.

The other release of the week, SIRF - LIFE LOOKS GREENER ON THE OTHER SIDE, starring Manisha Koirala, Kay Kay Menon, Ranvir Shorey, Sonali Kulkarni, Nauheed Cyrusi and Rituparna Sengupta, had a poor to bad start and will join the list of the big failures of the year.

Both the releases of last week, SALAKHAIN and Tanuja Chandra's English film, HOPE & A LITTLE SUGAR, have been out rightly rejected by the audience with total collections of 15-20 lakhs from India.

Ajay Devgan's U ME AUR HUM drops in the second week, after a below par performance in the first. In trade parlance it is referred to as 'steady on the lower side'. With TASHAN unlikely to cut into the business of any film, chances are that the 25-crore U ME AUR HUM may turn out to be a recovery venture by the next week.
