The coming Friday will see the release of SINGH IS KINNG, GOOD LUCK and MUDRANK - THE STAMP (still to be confirmed). It is obvious that of the three, Vipul Shah's Anees Bazmee directed Akshay, Katrina and Sonu Sood starrer SINGH IS KINNG will take an outstanding opening. Trade feels that the start that the Anees-Akshay venture is likely to embark upon will be on par if not better than their last venture, WELCOME, both in India and Overseas. One must add here that SINGH IS KINNG has been sold for a fancy price to Studio 18 and it has to sustain for at least two weeks before it can be called a success. The other two releases of the week are expected to sink without a trace.

Last week's solo release, the Mallika-Ranvir starrer, UGLY AUR PAGLI, had an ordinary to dull opening across India, which improved only marginally during the weekend. The reason is obvious, the film did not turn out to be the laugh riot that its teasers and title promised it would be. At the box-office, it is a disappointing fare and the average performance during the opening weekend will be its only redeeming feature.

Both the releases of 25th July, MISSION ISTAANBUL and MONEY HAI TOH HONEY HAI, turned out to be damp squibs. One must add here that the collections in Gujarat and Saurashtra were adversely affected due to the bomb blasts in Ahmedabad on 26th July and the bomb scare in Surat thereafter.

Evaluating the performance of Apoorva Lakhia's Vivek, Zayed starrer MISSION ISTAANBUL, the film had only ordinary collections to show. The week saw MISSION ISTAANBUL accumulating 1.05 crores from Bombay, 21.75 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 1.45 lakhs from Patan, 4.55 lakhs from Rajkot, 1.75 lakhs from Jamnagar, 3 lakhs from Bhavnagar, 1 lakh each from Porbandar and Gandhidham, 1.05 lakh from Adipur, 5.60 lakhs from Pune, 2.60 lakhs from Nasik, 58 lakhs from Delhi City, 8 lakhs from Noida, 6 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 11.40 lakhs from Lucknow, 2.35 lakhs from Agra, 1.20 lakhs from Allahabad, 3.35 lakhs from Aligarh, 1.50 lakhs from Gorakhpur, 12.15 lakhs from Gurgaon, 3.55 lakhs from Faridabad, 1 lakh each from Panipat and Durg, 1.15 lakhs from Guwahati, 7.40 lakhs from Nagpur, 2.55 lakhs from Indore, 1.05 lakhs from Bikaner, 37.85 lakhs from Hyderabad, 2.50 lakhs from Aurangabad and 1.60 lakhs from Mangalore. During its first week, MISSION ISTAANBUL has netted an ordinary 7 crores from India and the film is likely to be failure.

MISSION ISTAANBUL's release partner, MONEY HAI TOH HONEY HAI, is a debacle. The Ganesh Acharya directed film collected 82 lakhs from Bombay, 13 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 2.20 lakhs from Rajkot, 1 lakh each from Jamnagar and Gandhidham, 3.60 lakhs from Pune, 1.75 lakhs from Nasik, 38 lakhs from Delhi City, 4.50 lakhs from Noida, 5 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 1.10 lakhs from Kanpur, 7 lakhs from Lucknow, 2.35 lakhs from Agra, 1.25 lakhs from Allahabad, 1 lakh from Bareilly, 1.60 lakhs from Gorakhpur, 3 lakhs from Gurgaon, 2.85 lakhs from Faridabad, 6 lakhs from Nagpur, 1 lakh from Raipur, 1.05 lakhs from Indore, 1.35 lakhs from Sehore, 15.40 lakhs from Jaipur, 1.40 lakhs from Bikaner, 1.35 lakhs from Nanded and 1.20 lakhs from Salem. During its opening week, the Govinda, Manoj, Upen and Hansika starrer, MONEY HAI TOH HONEY HAI, has netted a poor 4.70 crores from India and has failed at the ticket window.

The second week saw a huge crash for KISMAT KONNECTION. Thankfully, it has already crossed over to the profitable side of the equation. The Aziz Mirza directed film collected 65.35 lakhs from Bombay, 7.25 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 2 lakh from Rajkot, 1.75 lakhs from Jamnagar, 1.20 lakhs from Gandhidham, 4.75 lakhs from Pune, 2.85 lakhs from Nasik, 50 lakhs from Delhi City, 9.75 lakhs from Noida, 4.30 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 3.50 lakhs from Kanpur, 7.10 lakhs from Lucknow, 2 lakhs from Agra, 1 lakh from Bareilly, 1.20 lakhs from Gorakhpur, 14.10 lakhs from Gurgaon, 3.50 lakhs from Faridabad, 1.20 lakhs from Panipat, 2.80 lakhs from Calcutta, 1.25 lakhs from Guwahati, 7.75 lakhs from Nagpur, 1.10 lakhs from Jabalpur, 5 lakhs from Jaipur, 2.05 lakhs from Ajmer, 13.55 lakhs from Hyderabad, 1.25 lakhs from Nanded and 2 lakhs from Mangalore. During the week, KISMAT KONNECTION adds another 5.90 crores and has so far netted 26.50 crores in two weeks from India. The Shahid-Vidya starrer is now an above average fare that can still touch the semi-hit status. The film has done reasonably well in the US grossing $479,759.

Meanwhile Ram Gopal Varma's CONTRACT sank like an anchor, getting barely 15 lakhs in its second week. The movie has thus ended its run having netted a dismal 2.50 crores from India and thereby earning a disaster status.

Aamir Khan and PVR Pictures' JAANE TU... YA JAANE NA has a very stable week (as compared to the previous one) to show. The film collected 67 lakhs from Bombay, 8 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 4.40 lakhs from Pune, 2.20 lakhs from Nasik, 61.50 lakhs from Delhi City, 9 lakhs from Noida, 5 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 3 lakhs from Kanpur, 7.35 lakhs from Lucknow, 1.35 lakhs from Agra, 1.30 lakhs from Amritsar, 14.85 lakhs from Gurgaon, 3.20 lakhs from Faridabad, 1.05 lakhs from Guwahati, 1.35 lakhs from Amravati, 1 lakh from Wardha, 6 lakhs from Indore, 2.10 lakhs from Bhopal, 1 lakh from Jaipur, 20.10 lakhs from Hyderabad, 1.40 lakhs from Warangal (first week), 1.70 lakhs from Aurangabad and 2 lakhs from Mangalore. Adding another 4.75 crores, the Imran-Genelia starrer becomes a blockbuster, having netted 51 crores in four weeks from India. The film continues its good run the US having grossed $600,922 so far.
