SINGH IS KINNG has picked up steam in a big way as it releases today. Though till last week it appeared that the film would be a certain success, as of now it seems highly probable that it would go on to smash quite a few box office records. Reason? The film is arriving at such a huge print count that exhibitors have started knocking off any other film in sight.
This means that while this Anees Bazmee starrer is being screened at more than 20 shows at number of multiplexes, there are hardly any takers for any other film which released in last few weeks. This pretty much spells doom for just released films, especially UGLY AUR PAGLI, which is bound to be most affected of all. While its first week was hardly exciting enough, it is bound to crash in a big way during its second week due to hardly any prints in circulation.
Ditto for films like MISSION ISTANBUL and MONEY HAI TO HONEY HAI which could perhaps do better business if their DVD arrive this week since a theatrical run is a certain no-no. Meanwhile, even 'successful' films like KISMAT KONNECTION and JAANE TU... YA JAANE NAA can expect a big slide down from here on. While KISMAT KONNECTION had anyways taken a huge fall in it's last week and is anyways expected to be out of circulation, even JAANE TU... YA JAANE NAA may well see itself being restricted to 2-3 shows at maximum in majority of multiplexes.
With SINGH IS KINNG proving to be nightmare for all the movies in the running, it would only be worse with the arrival of BACHNA AE HASEENO and GOD TUSSI GREAT HO in week to come. With 3 big films running simultaneously in a week from now, there is no reason why any of the films released in the past would be retained in any capacity at all before the weekend of 15th August kick starts!
