Never before has the industry even touched 100 crores in net collections - let aside cross the milestone - in a matter of two weeks. 2007 saw the highest two week total for Bollywood when OM SHANTI OM and SAAWARIYA clashed at the box office. While the first week brought in 60 crores (OSO - 40 cr, SAAWARIYA - 20 cr), a week later Bollywood turned richer by 30 crores (OSO - 25 cr, SAAWARIYA - 5 cr). Though 90 crores in a matter of a fortnight was no mean achievement, 100 crores mark still looked quite some distance away.
However, in less than a year later, what seemed impossible has turned into a reality as arrival of three biggies like SINGH IS KINNG, BACHNA AE HASEENO and GOD TUSSI GREAT HO has ensured that the 100 crore milestone within a fortnight becomes pretty much achievable for Bollywood.
Picture this: In its first week itself SINGH IS KINNG managed to bring home 44 crores. On the other hand the week to follow was even more productive for Bollywood since second week of SINGH IS KINNG read 18 crores while BACHNA AE HASEENO and GOD TUSSI GREAT HO which released in this week collected 21.5 crores and 11.5 crores respectively. Total haul of the week? 51 crores. Sum total for the fortnight? 99 crores. So where did the remaining 1 crore comes in? Well, this is where JAANE TU YA JAANE NAA comes into picture which has made close to 1.5 crores in the fortnight gone by, hence bringing the Bollywood total in the excess of 100 crores.
With the milestone being achieved and many more biggies arriving this festive season, it would well be a rule than an exception for Bollywood to be enjoying many more 100 crores fortnight in time to come.
