Two years back there was a film that released by the name of YUN HOTA TO KYA HOTA. Marking the debut of Naseeruddin Shah as a director, it found itself engulfed in a controversy that saw its script writer Uttam Gada reaching out to media and accusing Shah of manipulating it to such an extent that it hardly held its essence any more. In fact he was so disappointed with Naseer's so called interference with the script that he did not even want to be given credit as the scriptwriter of the film.
He believed that Naseer had not just changed more than 80 percent of his original script but the one that was seen in the film was cheap and downright offensive. On his part, Naseer was said to have told Uttam that after submitting the script, his work as a scriptwriter was over so he may not fret any further about the final output.
However, two years after the incident, all seems to have forgotten as Naseer and Uttam Gada are working together again. The film is MAHARATHI which releases this weekend and sees Gada as the writer of the film. As an acclaimed Gujarati and Hindi play writer, he had originally penned MAHARATHI, a world famous play, which was directed by Paresh Rawal. Now he continues to be credited for MAHARATHI as the story makes it to the big screen in a film format. Incidentally, Naseer plays a pivotal role in the film i.e. that of a man who shoots himself after throwing a challenge to his wife (Neha Dhupia) to make his death sound like a murder and then go on to benefit from insurance.
Well, as is the saying, there are no permanent friends and enemies in the world called Bollywood and coming together of Naseer and Uttam only consolidates the belief further!
