It was getting too much too soon but finally there has been a control action put in place. Off late, there were quite a few films starring Vinay Pathak as the central protagonist that were being unleashed one after another at theaters. In the times when even the top stars are spacing out their releases by a few months at least, Vinay Pathak bringing number of his films in quick succession was never meant to be a sane idea.
However, the makers of his films had a different thought that resulted in DASVIDANIYA and OH MY GOD coming within a span of three weeks. While DASVIDANIYA flopped, at the least it got some critical acclaim coming its way. OH MY GOD couldn't succeed in either and the result was that all the hard work done through films like BHEJA FRY and MITHYA seemed to have been diluted to an extent.
This has resulted in his SRK being pushed forward to 2009. A Warner Bros. production which has been directed by debutant Ajay Verma, the film has been now ready for a while with theaters even showing it's promos till about a month back. The publicity material was also placed in the multiplexes but with Vinay Pathak being seen in too many films at the same time, SRK's delay comes across as a welcome step.
While Vinay Pathak plays the title role of SRK, which stands for Shivaji Rao Khote, in the film, Rituparna Sengupta plays his wife. Also starring Manoj Joshi and Dilip Prabhavalkar in the supporting cast, SRK is about a man who always feels that his meager job is keeping him away from a grand ambitious life in the big city. How he later becomes obsessed with the idea of becoming a 'sanyasi' forms the crux of SRK.
