Aamir Khan and Abbas Tyrewala did it a few months back. Later, Vipul Shah and Anees Bazmee did it again. And now Rohan Sippy and Nikhil Advani are aiming for it as well. As you would have guessed by now, the aforementioned names are of those film makers coming together where the producer is an accomplished director himself. JAANE TU YA JAANE NAA, SINGH IS KINNG and now CHANDNI CHOWK TO CHINA the three films had Abbas Tyrewala, Anees Bazmee and Nikhil Advani holding the reins even as Aamir Khan, Vipul Shah and Rohan Sippy ensured that the entire film making process went hassle free.
How easy is to let another director drive the show when you yourself have directed a few movies before? When asked this question, this is what Rohan Sippy had to reply. 'In case of CHANDNI CHOWK TO CHINA, it wasn't difficult at all since everyone had a definite role to play from the very beginning. Sridhar (Raghavan) had delivered a fantastic script so there were no issues from the basic foundation perspective. Also, a lot of creative stuff was already in place.'
Still, film making is a gradual process, isn't it?
'Of course there are inputs that come in later as well. Suggestions and improvements were most welcome here as well, whether it was to do with locations or costumes. But then Nikhil is good at his craft that we didn't have to worry much during filming. We all worked together as a team and it was a very open and healthy environment. We did go a little back and forth but the entire feedback process only helped the film', details Rohan.
He concludes while saying, 'CHANDNI CHOWK TO CHINA is a film that has turned out to be the way it is today because of best of everyone's contribution. It is a collaborative effort.'
