FASHION co-producer Bhandarkar upset with UTV?
February 23, 2008 6:23:24 PM IST Bollywood Trade News Network
Madhur Bhandarkar is an upset man. While he continues to be un-amused by the unnecessary attention that his film FASHION is generating ever since it got on floors close to two months back, the hastiness in which the first look of his film has been revealed has left a bad taste in his mouth.
Reveals a source closely attached the project, "Everyone today realizes the importance of intelligent publicity and marketing of a film when every move is being watched so closely. But to Madhur sir's surprise, he wasn't even consulted at all. UTV, the co-producers of the film, just went ahead and showcased the first poster of the film on their own. He still doesn't understand what was the hurry in doing so?"
"The film is still so far away. It won't arrive before the last quarter of 2008", adds the crew member, "It would have been better to have the mystery element to stay on. Moreover, to add insult to the injury, the design and content of the poster is simply shoddy."
Draped in pink, the poster simply shows a mirror that has FASHION written with a pink lipstick. There is no picture of any actor on the frame which merely carries a catch line - 'An Expose Into Glamorous Yet Dark World Of The Fasion Industry'. The only credits mentioned are that of Priyanka Chopra, Kangna Ranaut, Madhur Bhandarkar and Ronnie Screwvala.
This is not all as the poster also has certain fact related issues. Though the film is presented by both UTV Motion Pictures and Bhandarkar Entertainment, only Ronnie Screwvala's name is mentioned as a producer. "I don't know how they missed out on something as crucial as crediting a co-producer of the film. Madhur sir is also co-producing the film and his name must have been present on the poster not just as a director but even as a producer. I guess it was an all around goof up."
"Is that a way to get the first impression out for a film as hyped as FASHION”, fumes the crew member, "For someone like Madhur sir who chooses his projects so carefully, does an extensive research and goes all out to make a quality product, it is blasphemous to even accept such publicity material. He will go all out to ensure that the poster doesn't reach out any further and is dumped pronto."
While the poster being replaced seems to be a certainty, we tried to contact Madhur Bhandarkar for his reactions. However, the film maker had kept his phone switched off and was unreachable in spite of repeated attempts.
