Rohit Shetty: GOLMAAL RETURNS doesn't have a topic at all
November 1, 2008 4:30:33 PM IST Joginder Tuteja, Bollywood Trade News Network
While GOLMAAL RETURNS has opened to a thunderous response all over, FASHION is finding a good inflow of audience all over with the collections trending upwards with each passing show. As of now, both the films are on a success route.
"This is the reason why I wasn't worried about FASHION when we realized that both the movies are coming on the same day", says director Rohit Shetty, "I would have understood that there is some competition if the film arriving along side us was a SINGH IS KINNG or CHANDNI CHOWK TO CHINA. That's because of factors like genre and the presence of superstar like Akshay Kumar. If it was a comedy releasing with GOLMAAL RETURNS then audience may have had to make a choice to pick between the two."
"However, in case of FASHION, the best part is that people know what the film is all about and the topic it is going to explore. So the film has its own market because people are prepared. However, ours is a different experience altogether since GOLMAAL RETURNS doesn't have a topic at all", says Rohit with tongue in cheek humor.
Delving into the past, Rohit reveals, "We were earlier not coming on Diwali and were actually looking at a November release. However, when we realized that CHANDNI CHOWK TO CHINA is being delayed, we jumped in."
Talking about the prospects of both the movies considering they have embarked on a positive note, Rohit says, "Good naa, let them be TAARE ZAMEEN PAR and we be WELCOME. After all there is place for everyone out here. Both movies can run in parallel with each other."
