DOSTANA is seeing great returns at the box office while the music too is sitting pretty at the top of the charts. However, it was not a smooth walk for Tarun Mansukhani or VishalShekhar when they assembled to create music for the film.
"Seriously, I drove Vishal and Shekhar completely nuts when it came to the music", jokes Tarun, "I would go ballistic in the first hearing of a tune. I didn't want something which grows on me; the music didn't have to be fungus there. It had to be something which hits me in the first go itself."
Says Vishal Dadlani, "True, Tarun was driving both of us really hard. He wanted simplicity in the music and also some fresh sound."
"This is why 'Jaane Kyun' worked so very well for me", remembers Tarun, "I asked them to stop playing the tune for me after the first four lines itself; it made such an instant impression. They were shocked because I didn't even want to wait till the hook arrived. I passed it immediately."
Talking about the rage that 'Maa Da Laadla' is today, Tarun says, "It is all about the vibes that you get when a tune is played to you. When 'Maa Da Laadla' happened, I knew the kind of potential it came with. Of course, I gave a lot of heartburn to Vishal and Shekhar before finalizing on the six songs. In fact I remember walking up and complaining to Shekhar that I was not getting dedicated time from them."
Laughs Vishal, "Yes, Tarun is a friend and he took full advantage of that. He knew that he could afford to be demanding and get the best for him. We also knew that we had to oblige since he wouldn't have settled for anything lesser. The result is DOSTANA."
