This week will see the return of the biggies with Goldie Behl's Jaya, Abhishek, Priyanka and Kay Kay starrer DRONA taking on the Sanjay 'Dhoom' Gadhvi directed Dutt, Imran and Minissha starrer KIDNAP. One feels that the SFX laden, well mounted DRONA, boasting of a super performance from Abhishek Bachchan, may not win the initial battle but will come into its own as the days progress. On the other hand KIDNAP is likely to embark on a good start, riding on the media hype surrounding the JAANE TU... YA JAANE NA star Imran Khan and his confrontation scenes with Sanjay Dutt. There is a third player in the fray too! Yes, we are talking about Nandita Das's RAMCHAND PAKISTANI, but it is aimed mainly at the elite multiplex audience.
Coming to last Friday's two releases, RAFOO CHAKKARFUN ON THE RUN and HARI PUTTARA COMEDY OF TERRORS, they get the dubious distinction of ending Bollywood's great run that started with SINGH IS KINNG on 8th August and continued till the third week of September with WELCOME TO SAJJANPUR. Checking on the actual performances, while RAFOO CHAKKARFUN ON THE RUN had a dull to weak start, HARI PUTTARA COMEDY OF TERRORS was generally dull all over. With such a start, that went from bad to worse, both the shoddily made products are expected to be dismal failures.
The surprisingly good opening of WELCOME TO SAJJANPUR translated into good collections, especially in the Bombay circuit. Sunil Doshi's HULLA has extremely poor collections to show. Netting just about 15 lakhs in its opening week from India, the Jaideep Varma directed HULLA has fallen flat and will not be able to cover even the cost of its prints and publicity!
