No real big guns this Diwali

It has been a tradition of sorts in Bollywood for big producers to release their films in and around 'Diwali'. The last few years have seen some of the most interesting clashes between top makers, all out to get maximum mileage from the festive 'Diwali period.
Going back over the years we have had producers and directors like Yash Chopra, Karan Johar, Sooraj Barjatya, Subhash Ghai etc. who have successfully released their films during this period. Last year witnessed one of the most publicized and fierce clashes between Shah Rukh Khan's OM SHANTI OM and Sanjay Leela Bhansali's SAAWARIYA. Of course King Khan trouncing SAAWARIYA is old news. Year 2006 saw another interesting clash between Shah Rukh Khan's DON and SalmanAkshay's JAANE MANN. Once again SRK came up trumps. 2005 saw Akshay Kumar (GARAM MASALA) winning the round over Salman Khan's KYON KI. And year 2004 too had King Khan coming out with flying colours with his Yash Chopra directed VEER ZARA and with him clashed Akshay Kumar's AITRAAZ and the new, coloured version of MUGHALEAZAM.
However this year the big players are missing in action. The real stars have already fired during the pre 'Diwali' phase (Sunny and Salman in HEROES) and and the actual 'Diwali' will not witness big fireworks.
Films releasing on Diwali are Madhur Bhandarkar's FASHION and Rohit Shetty's and GOLMAAL RETURNS. While both have managed to arouse the interest of the average cinemagoer but the hype behind the films is not of gargantuan proportions, unlike the previous years. Although GOLMAAL RETURNS holds the edge over FASHION on an all India basis, but the missing big five has somewhat dimmed the Diwali sparkle.
Here's hoping that next 'Diwali' onwards, we will have some of the big guns firing on all cylinders!
