With great reviews welcoming the film and extremely strong word of mouth, A WEDNESDAY is taking huge leaps at the box office with every passing day.
Though the opening day collections were (expectedly) on the lower side (20%-30%), there was a sharp increase in collection on Saturday with multiplexes boasting of 60%+ collections. By the time evening shows of Sunday kick started, word had spread that A WEDNESDAY is one of the finest works of Naseeruddin Shah, Anupam Kher and Jimmy Sheirgill which resulted in quite a few multiplexes boasting of sell-out audience.
Says Jimmy Sheirgill, ''A WEDNESDAY was always supposed to be a film which would grow with word of mouth. This is why we went all over the country with number of previews. We wanted large number of people to see the film and talk about it.''
Writer-director Neeraj Pandey adds, ''Everywhere I go, the response has been quite positive. When we all came together to make the film, we wanted to do an honest job. Thankfully we have succeeded in doing that and the audience as well as the critic response is there to be seen.”
Concludes Jimmy Sheirgill, ''I am glad that collections are improving with every passing day for A WEDNESDAY. This was never meant to be a 'get all your collections in the opening weekend' kind of a film. The film was meant to settle down amongst the audience and this is pretty much visible in the way we are seeing a steady increase in collections.''
