It seems Guy Ritchie is the latest Hollywood director to have influenced quite a few of his Bollywood counterparts. Ahmed Khan was one of the first directors to apply similar story telling technique in his FOOL N FINAL which was a remake of Guy's SNATCH. Now Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK, co-directors of the film 99, seem to have been inspired by the film maker, as apparent in the promo of the film which has just been unveiled.
An impressive promo, it tells the story of three men who are bound by a common feeling of always being stuck at 99. They never seem to make it to a 'century' - in life. It is an unpredictable and hilarious ride spread over two cities with colorful characters, unbelievable circumstances, small-time crooks, big-time conspiracies, fateful car crashes and a briefcase full of money.
Apart from the Guy Ritchie style of narrative, what also catches your attention is the short hair-do of Kunal Khemu. Now that's much better than the hair style he adopted for his recent releases DHOODNTE REH JAAOGE and JAI VEERU. Moreover, the film appears to be veterans show all the way with Mahesh Manjrekar, Boman Irani and Vinod Khanna leading the bunch.
If the first look is any indication, the movie deserves to be promoted aggressively! It has the potential to do well with the youngsters and turn out to be a much wanted success of the dry year that 2009 has been. A film which also stars Soha Ali Khan, Cyrus Broucha and Simone Singh, 99 is aiming for a May release.
