Producers strike begins; no new releases in sight

While optimists would have laid their hopes into the stand off between producers and the multiplexes being called off at the last moment, that hasn't happened. None of the two parties has budged from its stands as a result of which 8X10 TASVEER has turned out to be the last release before the strike. Beginning next Friday, audiences would be starved of new releases for at least next three weeks since no producer has announced any film till 1st May.
Vashu Bhagnani is confident though there should be some resolution by 1st May as a result of which he has announced this date as the release of his son Jackky's launch pad KAL KISSNE DEKHA. No other producer shares the same sentiment though. Makers of 99 have begun promotion of their comic thriller but are yet to formally announce a date of release. There is likelihood of this Kunal Khemu, Boman Irani, Mahesh Manjrekar, Vinod Khanna and Soha Ali Khan starrer to arrive on 1st May provided the standoff is cleared soon.
Another film that could be sighting 1st May release is Yash Raj Films' NEW YORK but except for theatrical promotion of this John Abraham, Katrina Kaif and Neil Nitin Mukesh starrer, there is no momentum that has been seen around this Kabir Khan directed dramatic thriller.
The only film this season which is indeed seeing a full on promotion is KAMBAKKTH ISHQ. With posters and other publicity material of the film announcing its 29th May arrival loud and clear, Sajid Nadiadwala, the producer is already on a front foot.
However, when it comes to the month of April, audience would have to be content with 8X10 TASVEER which is currently the only new Hindi release in theaters.
