It was during the summer vacations (2nd June 2009 to be precise) that we had broken the news from the hill state of Himachal Pradesh that top director Ashutosh Gowariker was there to location hunt for BUDDHA, an international project being co-produced with Spice Infotainment. We had also told you that the Himachal tourism department had promptly given Ashutosh the permission to location hunt and had promised all help regarding the shooting etc. We had followed it up by another brief on the exact locations that Ashutosh, along with Spice Infotainment Chairman B K Modi had chosen and earmarked for the shoot. Well, here is more.
As per our local sources, based in the beautiful hill station of Manali, a huge set is under construction in the exotic Kothi village (also the location for Randhir Kapoor's HENNA), around 12 kilometers away from Manali, on the road to historic Rohtang Pass. This set is being constructed under the guidance of Ashutosh's very own art director, Nitin Desai, and work has already begun in right earnest.
The amount of work required to construct the set is so vast that it will only be ready in April 2010 and shooting is expected to commence from May 2010. Most of the scenes of the film will be shot here. Some important scenes will also be picturised in the ancient cold desert of Spiti valley. Ashutosh, after fixing things in Spiti returned to Manali last Thursday, and spent the next day engrossed in meetings, where he finalized the tentative shooting schedules and then returned back to Bombay.
Well, seeing the kind of work that Nitin Desai had done in JODHAA AKBAR, we are sure that BUDDHA will be another grand spectacle. Keep tuned to your favourite web portal for more interesting and exclusive details on BUDDHA.
