One and a half years after she was last seen in KISMAT KONNECTION, Vidya Balan would be seen on the silver screen once again in PAA. While the former was a love story, Vidya would now be graduating to playing Amitabh Bachchan's mother in the latter. Was she game for the act or did she require much convincing?
"Frankly I wasn't too sure", confesses Vidya who has earlier worked with Amitabh Bachchan in Vidhu Vinod Chopra directed EKLAVYA - THE ROYAL GUARD, "I had no clue if (director) Balki would actually be offering me a role of Mr. Bachchan's mother. Since I had seen CHEENI KUM, the maximum that I would have expected out of PAA was to play a lead opposite him."
Earlier, Vidya has worked with the likes of Saif Ali Khan (PARINEETA, EKLAVYA - THE ROYAL GUARD), Sanjay Dutt (LAGEY RAHO MUNNABHAI), John Abraham (SALAAM E ISHQ), Akshay Kumar (HEYY BABYY, BHOOL BHULAIYAA), Ajay Devgn (HALLA BOL) and Shahid Kapoor (KISMAT KONNECTION).
Vidya was in for a surprise though when Balki explained the idea of the film to her.
"I didn't really know how to react", she smiles, "Here I was playing Abhishek Bachchan's love interest as well as his real father's reel mother - all in one film. I was like 'wow, now what's that'! It took me some time to absorb this but eventually I did say yes."
Also starring Paresh Rawal in a key role, PAA, which is a co-production of AB Corp. and Sunil Manchanda (who has earlier made CHEENI KUM, SALAAM E ISHQ and TERE NAAM), releases today.
