Madhavan is one of those rare actors in recent times who has worked with Aamir Khan in two films. Since Aamir acts in only one film a year, it is quite a task for any other actor to be repeated in quick succession. However, for Madhavan this has been possible, albeit after a near four year long wait, to be seen again with Aamir in 3 IDIOTS after RANG DE BASANTI.
Though Madhavan had a supporting, but important role in RANG DE BASANTI (his character died mid-way through the film though it was responsible for the subsequent revolutionary act of Aamir and other friends), in 3 IDIOTS he has graduated (no pun intended) to playing one of the three college students. However, even though he and Sharman Joshi are pretty much being billed as the 'two idiots', the fact remains that Aamir Khan is the central protagonist of the fact.
Isn't it scary to be sharing stage with the Idiot No. 1 since he is expected to walk away with all the accolades?
"No, such fears were never there in my mind. This is all an industry perception", comes a quick denial from Madhavan, "Remember RANG DE BASANTI? I had a miniscule role there but if you ask me, I would do a movie and a role like that even today."
He goes on to share an anecdote from his own life when he was working in his third Hindi film RAMJI LONDONWALEY (2005).
"I was the solo lead in that film and had requested Mr. Amitabh Bachchan to play himself for a crucial scene towards the climax. He readily agreed. When someone like he can do a bit role just for my sake then who am I? I should not have any complaints when I am working in a film as prestigious as 3 IDIOTS. And in any case, I have a good enough role. Here at least I play one of the idiots!"
