ACCIDENT ON HILL ROAD, RAAT GAYI BAAT GAYI and BOLO RAAM
Till about a couple of years back, it was firmly established in Bollywood that last release of the year was destined to be a flop. There were quite a few examples to substantiate that but the blockbuster success of GHAJINI dispelled the myth. As the last release of 2008, it scored quite heavily at the box office even though it was being widely believed that audiences stay away from theaters around the New Year eve. This is not all as Aamir Khan promptly announced 3 IDIOTS as the last release of 2009 too, hence pretty much patenting his right over the Christmas weekend.
No wonder, other film makers are also following suit and though 25th December is the last Friday of 2009, there are at least three movies which are eyeing the 31st December spot. Even though the date falls on a Thursday, the makers are undeterred and are rushing to meet the year end deadline.
These films are RAAT GAYI BAAT GAYI, ACCIDENT ON HILL ROAD and BOLO RAAM. Each of the three films belong to diverse genres. While RAAT GAYI... is an adult comedy, ACCIDENT..., as the name suggests, is a thriller. On the other hand BOLO RAAM is a dramatic murder mystery.
There is another strong reason for all the rush. January is quite packed with 8th January (PYAAR IMPOSSIBLE, DULHA MIL GAYA), 15th January (CHANCE PE DANCE) and 22nd January (VEER) seeing some really major films hitting the screens. February would be dominated by MY NAME IS KHAN and smaller films have no choice but to arrive as early as possible.
No wonder, these films are willing to take a chance, come together on the last day of the year and try their luck.
