Randeep Hooda sounds quite enthusiastic while talking about the 18 characters that he plays in MERE KHWABON MEIN JO AAYE. However, not many are aware that to begin with, there was only one character in the film who took different shades. It was only later that it was decided to have 18 different characters portray these emotions.
Confirms Randeep Hooda, who last saw the release of RU BA RU, ''When the idea was narrated to me for the first time, there was only character in the film. It was later turned into 18 characters. Whacky? Yes, but it is truly entertaining as well. Also, to give credit to the narrative, all of it is truly believable as well. And then what's a story without a fantastical element to it. This is what the tagline of the film says as well - Fantasies are more real than reality!''
He was careful though not to turn these 18 characters into mere caricatures. ''This is something that my director Madhureeta Anand was very sure about. She told me specifically that I couldn't portray any of the characters as a caricature. For example, one of the characters that I play is a take off on Mr. Amitabh Bachchan. Now I didn't have to be a 'nakli' Mr. Bachchan there. Instead I had to get into the essence of the character.''
It's not just Amitabh Bachchan though that Randeep becomes on screen. He also does a take off on James Bond, Zorro, Dharmendra, Humphrey Bogart, Elvis Presley, a cop, music guru and a sexy guy/model amongst others.
''But remember, none of it is done as a spoof on the film. We haven't tried to make fun of any of them. Also, we haven't relied upon their image by getting stuck into the characters and their mannerisms'', signs off Randeep.
