Say Nana Patekar and the images that immediately come to one's mind are those from PARINDA, KRANTIVEER, TIRANGAA and AGNISAKSHI. Each of these films from the 90s had Nana Patekar playing a central protagonist and such intense and powerful was his portrayal of the characters that it became difficult for him to move out of a set image.
He did come up with superlative (and different) performances in films like WELCOME, TAXI NUMBER 9211, BLUFFMASTER, APAHARAN, AB TAK CHAPPAN and HU TU TU as well but somehow the angry man image has been stuck on him for years now.
However, Sangeeth Sivan, the director of EK - THE POWER OF ONE which stars Nana Patekar in the lead along with Bobby Deol, promises that the actor's image would change with the upcoming release.
Says the director of successful comedies like KYA KOOL HAI HUM and APNA SAPNA MONEY MONEY, ''Nana would be seen in a never seen before avtar in my film. Agree that numerous film makers have laid their claim in a similar manner before but watch EK - THE POWER OF ONE and you would see the difference. One expects nothing but the best when he is on the frame. It's the same in this film as well.''
Extremely satisfied with the way Nana's character of CBI Inspector Rane has turned out in the action thriller, Sangeeth goes on to add, ''Nana is an absolute delight on the sets since he wants to understand a scene in entirety before he faces the camera. He has to be convinced about whatever is required to happen in a shot and he would always be bubbling with suggestions. For his character, we took a conscious call that he won't be a typical Nana.''
