There is something about a numeric title that is really fascinating Bollywood today. Wilson Louis's next film, '8', has just been announced and as intriguing as it may sound, the fact is that it is now pretty much carrying forward the trend (of numbers as a film title) that is building on fast.
Earlier this year, Bollywood has been witness to two small films with a numeric title turning out to be good success. These were 13B and 99, both of which boasted of a unique storyline and enticed their target audiences to walk into theaters. While 13B was a supernatural flick, 99 was a cool comic thriller. On the other hand Wilson Louis promises that his '8' will be a mother of all horror flicks!
This is not all as earlier in the year, DELHI 6 too boasted of a number as a part of the film's title. It's a different thing though that this apology of a film couldn't be saved even with a number being a part of its title. Same held good for 8X10 TASVEER which was yet another film that belonged to supernatural genre but was completely rejected by the audiences. EK - THE POWER OF ONE couldn't fare better either.
There is a lot more to follow in the rest of the year though. THREE - LOVE, LIES AND BETRAYAL is a Vikram Bhatt production and is a thriller starring relative newcomers. Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh are coming together in DO DOONI CHAAR but it is uncertain whether the film would release this year. There are no questions being asked around 3 IDIOTS though that comes with a 'safe' Aamir Khan tag.
With numbers fast disappearing, it is time for film makers to become further innovative and apply different permutations and combinations to make their film titles enticing enough.
