Raksha Mistry and Hasnain Hyderabadwala, the co-directors of JASHNN have sworn off making remakes, especially after the box office failure of THE KILLER and THE TRAIN, both of which were lifted from Hollywood films. However, rather than being a boon to pick up something that was readymade, these projects only resulted in Raksha and Hasnain doubting their own abilities as storytellers.
"We started wondering if there was something inherently wrong with us", states Raksha in a candid chat, "We questioned each other - Do we really have it in us to tell a story? Even though THE TRAIN and THE KILLER did get us positive feedback from the industry, we had a point to prove to our audiences. We realized that maybe the biggest challenge we faced was that we were making remakes. May be that was the reason audiences were having pre-conceived notions about us."
Adds Hasnain, "We arrived at a conclusion that if we had to really show our talent to the world, we had to give it something that was absolutely original. This is how JASHNN was born. Failure of THE KILLER and THE TRAIN taught us a lot. I guess we were definitely not bad in the two films and this is why we are still in the business of making movies. We approached Bhatts and stated that we had a musical drama in our hands called JASHNN. It didn't take time for them to support our project."
Both the directors realize that JASHNN is being looked at with keen interest.
"Yes, we know that. JASHNN is THE movie for us and we have given our all to it. Thankfully the music has become huge success as well. Now we are just waiting for 17th July, the day when JASHNN arrives on theaters," conclude Raksha and Hasnain.
