ONIR

Film maker Onir is appalled with statistics and facts detailing child abuse in India. This being a subject for his short film ABHIMANYU, he also reflects that child abuse is not just happening amongst adults but also teenage children who have been exposed to porn at such a young age.

''Seriously, I am shocked when I come across stuff like this'', says Onir, ''A lot of porn is available to teenage children who very often abuse their younger sibling/neighbours, etc. Are we so callous that we do not want to acknowledge this? Don't we want to protect our child?''

He is also surprised that though his film is getting financial support from unknown people through social networking sites, Bollywood corporate houses aren't really as forthcoming.

''The other day I was wondering that ever since I announced this series of short films, I had had so much support from complete strangers. However, isn't it surprising that the industry has been silent? No corporate house/financer has shown interest. This perhaps reflects the sad state of our films which believes only in escapist cinema. May be they believe that a film about 'Child abuse' is not entertaining. Perhaps 'Child abuse' does not make a project''', he rues!

Returning from Bangalore after having completed the recce for ABHIMANYU, he realizes that it is one thing to imagine and desire while reality is an altogether different ballgame.

''I have to reconsider locations according to the budget, according to convenience in terms of time to travel from one spot to another etc. etc.'', he says, ''ABHIMANYU is a project that wants to show that we all care. I have had many messages saying that we support the cause and cheers. But maybe it means a little sacrifice. Perhaps one night less at a night club!''
