Talk of natural actresses in today's time and the only name that comes to mind is Konkona Sen Sharma. And if one goes back a little into the past, then the only other name is Tabu who is unfortunately not too visible on the Bollywood scene today. Due to this very reason when a new actor emerges and impresses everyone with her performance in her very first Bollywood outing, there are all the right reasons to rejoice.
Mahi Gill is one such actress who was simply fantastic in DEV D and is all set to come up with yet another excellent act in her upcoming release GULAAL. Incidentally, yet again the director at helm is Anurag Kashyap. One quizzes Mahi about how big and important is her part in the film which is dominated by a male starcast?
''It's a special appearance in the film'', confesses Mahi, ''In fact I came in when the major portion of the film had already been shot. There was another actress playing the part which I have eventually done. She had shot for a scene as well and later because of some problem, she was no more a part of the film. This is when Anurag approached me.''
Didn't she feel like saying no, especially since she was making her debut as a leading lady in DEV D and moreover was a replacement for another actress?
''It wasn't like I couldn't say no. The fact is that I didn't want to say no'', Mahi sets the records straight; ''By that time I had already shot for DEV D and knew his capabilities and sensibilities. I knew that this was a small part in the film but an important one nevertheless. I readily agreed to do the film. Moreover, he is a mentor and even if he would have asked me to do one scene in the film, I would have done it.''
