Ever noticed that pretty little young woman dancing to the tunes of 'Punjabi Boliyan' in the promos of ALOO CHAAT? Well, she is the second female lead of this Robby Grewal directed film - Linda Arsenio. In the film she plays an American who visits a Punjabi household (that of Aftab Shivdasani) and loves adapting to its cultural milieu. For the role, she had to wear a lot of Indian costumes including an elaborate lehenga and even heavy sarees. So how was the experience?
''Oh, I love dressing up in Indian costumes and as you can make out from the promos, I am quite comfortable wearing them as well. I especially love sarees because I truly believe that they are the most beautiful thing that a woman can wear. In fact why just for the film, I would love to wear them in real life as well'', says Linda who has earlier been seen in KABUL EXPRESS and MUMBAI SALSA. However, both the films saw her in Western outfits.
So what does this young American woman like to wear in Mumbai which has become her place of work for last 3 years?
''Salwar-kameez'', promptly comes a reply, ''That's one outfit that I can carry off any time.''
In the traditional numbers of ALOO CHAAT, she is seen having quite some fun in front of camera.
''Oh, it was a comical sequence actually. The situation has a hardcore authentic Punjabi setting to it and I try joining in the celebrations'', she remembers, ''So here I am, in my elaborate costume, dancing away to glory with so much of fun. I remember how we all used to have a hearty laugh throughout the time we were shooting for the song. Really, it was great fun to get into a Bollywood heroine avtar and act and behave as her''.
