There is an interesting story that goes behind the selection of Madhavan for the role of an Army Commander in soon to be released SIKANDAR. Apparently, Madhavan was always interested in getting into the army but could not make it there eventually. When director Piyush Jha got to know more about his background, he immediately approached the actor for an important role in his film.
''I was doing some research and found that Madhavan was always interested in being an Army officer. In fact he had also done his NCC training but somehow couldn't make it into the Army'', reveals Piyush, ''He came with an interesting background and it only helped me since I wanted someone who had the bearing of being an Army guy coming naturally to him rather than by putting it on and off.''
Eventually, how was the experience of working with Madhavan. Did his conviction in the actor pay off?
''Absolutely'', prompt comes the reply, ''I discovered that he was just the right person for the role. I remember speaking to him on the phone and he was quite excited about enacting the role of an Army Commander offered to him. I guess he was waiting for something like that and after I was through with my narration, he immediately said that he was doing it.''
Madhavan plays a Lt. Colonel in the film.
Smiles Piyush, ''Yeah, lot of people tell me that how can a guy who is in his 30s be a Lt. Colonel. But it is actually possible. I personally know of a few men who have reached this position at a young age. Madhavan plays a guy of his age and his role is that of a tough guy who has to uphold peace of his area.''
