Smilie Suri is doing a dance act in THE VAGINA MONOLOGUES directed by Mahabanoo Mody Kotwal and her son Kaizad Kotwal, wherein she is playing the role of young Haseena. This act is choreographed by well-known choreographer Sandip Soparrkar and Jassi Randhawa is enacting the pain of Haseena.
Comments Smilie, ''This is first time that I am doing theater but I am very glad to be part of this movement. It's called the V Day Movement. The proceeds of the same are going to go to Hasina Hussain, a woman who was the victim of the acid attack. I am lending my time and talent for this cause to create an awareness to help fight this violence. I am projecting the young Hasina through dance that is full of joy and hope and also determination. It's a performance that I am very excited about as Hasina Hussain is going to be felicitated on the 25h of March and proceeds will go to help her start a business of her own.''
In her forthcoming film by N. Chandra, Smilie is playing the victim of a sexual harassment. In the film she retaliates to maintain her dignity and self respect. She is literally reliving the pain and trauma of women in a different perspective.
THE VAGINA MONOLOGUES is an Obie Award winning episodic play written by Eve Ensler which ran at the Off Broadway Westside Theatre after a limited run at HERE Arts Centre in 1996. Ensler originally starred in the production; when she left the play it was recast with three Celebrity monologists.
