Wonders never cease. If released on any regular weekend, EK - THE POWER OF ONE may have gone unnoticed considering the fact that there aren't many takers of action films today, give or take a GHAJINI which is an exceptional case. Bobby Deol has made a career out of action films in the 90s but the 21st century hasn't quite treated him as well when it comes to action genre.
However, with some stroke of luck that has seen this Sangeeth Sivan film releasing a year later than it's planned schedule, EK - THE POWER OF ONE has supposedly caught momentum amongst the distributors. As per the film maker, he has been getting queries about the film, especially from the interiors, where audiences are warming up to the Nana Patekar-Bobby Deol actioner.
''I guess Bobby coming in an action film must have gladdened the distributors. It's a film that should do well in single screens. With the kind of films being made today, this is a rare phenomenon'', says Sangeeth who is finally seeing his ATHADU remake hitting the screens.
''The film deals with simple emotions that could be identified by every Indian. So I guess the film's appeal would be universal. Distributors are looking forward to such films. Lots of them have burnt their fingers on films that did well in multiplexes but not elsewhere'', hints Sangeeth.
Does he see his EK bridging the gap between multiplexes and single screens?
''Hopefully yes'', smiles Sangeeth, ''EK is on the same lines as GHAJINI as far as the genre is concerned. It has a style and treatment similar to GHAJINI which was a hard core commercial film with all commercial ingredients in place and a great actor (Aamir Khan) leading it. In a similar way, EK too is an out and out commercial film with great action and wonderful performances by the lead pair of Nana and Bobby.''
Starring Shriya Saran as the leading lady, EK - THE POWER OF ONE releases this Friday.
