Onir: I wanted to make a film on child abuse for a long time

Onir is one film maker who has constantly aimed at following an unconventional route. This time around he is ready to experiment again with short story telling. The director of films like MY BROTHER NIKHIL, BAS EK PAL and SORRY BHAI is now looking at telling five short stories in a single outing though he is yet to title his venture. One of the films would have child abuse as its central theme.
Says Onir, ''I wanted to make a film on child abuse for a long time. In fact one of the short stories, which is titled ABHIMANYU, is based on a real life incidence around child abuse. The idea is not to shock anyone but come up with a real story that is extremely touching and moving.''
He goes on to rattle down certain statistics to validate his claim around child abuse being a serious issue.
''Do you know that one out of every five girl child and one out of every ten boy child face sexual abuse? No one talks about it though and everything is just pushed under the carpet. But since the time I have started talking about ABHIMANYU, there have been so many phone calls and messages. In fact the amount of messages that I am getting on Facebook from people known and unknown to me has been unbelievable. There are people who have never spoken about it but are now opening up. It has been an overwhelming experience and the more I receive such messages, the more I feel that I have to do this film.''
Onir would begin casting for the film in a week from now and kick start the principal shoot in the 1st week of June. Unlike Ram Gopal Varma and Sanjay Gupta who chose different directors to do the job for their short story films DARNA ZAROORI HAI and DUS KAHANIYAAN respectively, Onir would be holding the megaphone for each of the five short stories.
