It was a 'pehle aap pehlee aap' situation during the early days of the shooting of 99. On the day when Vinod Khanna was supposed to shoot for the film for the first time, Boman Irani was also required for the same scene. Even though the original writing on paper had the shot beginning from Boman Irani and then moving to Vinod Khanna, the former wanted it the other way round as a mark of respect for the actor who has been on the Bollywood scene for close to four decades now.
Says co-director Krishna DK who could see a mutual admiration society building up on the sets of his film 99, ''Boman is clearly in awe of Vinod Khanna. The moment Vinod Khanna joined the shoot, Boman couldn't help but remember the star's yester years.''
He goes on to explain in detail about what happened on the sets.
''On the first day of Vinod Khanna's shoot, we were going with a shot that started on Boman first and then moved to Vinod Khanna. However, we had to reconsider the way this shot would be canned as Boman came up with this unusual request. He wanted us to begin with Vinod Khanna as a mark of respect. We were clearly flabbergasted because how many actors out there would even think in this direction, let aside sharing their thoughts?''
Vinod Khanna overheard the conversation and though he was pleasantly surprised at the respect being meted out to him, he wanted the shot remain as it is with the camera capturing frames with Boman first.
What happened next?
Laughs Krishna, ''Boman has a knack of getting things done his way. He continued to insist with Vinod Khanna as well as us and ultimately everyone had to follow what Boman wanted. After all this was meant to hail the dashing stud who has charmed his audiences over the years.''
