What's common between Amitabh Bachchan, Sridevi, Anil Kapoor, Hrithik Roshan, Kangana Ranaut, Kajol and Nana Patekar amongst many other renowned actors? Well, each of these have at one stage or the other in their career have played a character that has some form of mental illness.
So while Amitabh Bachchan was a schizophrenic in AANKHEN, Sridevi had the mind of a young girl in SADMA. Anil Kapopr was struck into a time warp two times around in EESHWAR and YUVVRAAJ while Hrithik Roshan was memorable in KOI...MIL GAYA. Kangna Ranaut has been playing a disturbed girl in quite a few films (WOH LAMHE, FASHION) while Kajol too has had a double bill in GUPT and U ME AUR HUM. As for Nana Patekar, his violently obsessive act in AGNISAKSHI has remained memorable even a decade after its release.
Now add Neetu Chandra to the list of these names. She is currently playing a lead role in Jagmohan Mundhra's APARTMENT and those attached to the film vouch for the fact that Neetu has come up with a mind blowing act while enacting the role of a mentally disturbed girl.
Says a close associate of Mundhra, 'Neetu has got the graph just right for the character of a young possessive woman. She was roped in because she has played a variety of roles over the last few years and hence is thankfully not slotted in any genre. But what she has done in APARTMENT has left everyone pleasantly surprised. It's a tough role, especially in the commercial realms of the film, and she is doing it all just perfect.'
Though Neetu is not willing to talk about the film or her performance now stating the reason that 'it is too early', all she is willing to say is - 'It is so easy to loose your way in enacting such a character and you have to be very careful that you stay within the boundaries and not slip. I am just trying to live up to the challenge.'
